Experience Goethe’s original “The Sorrows of Young Werther” as a new edition in Düsseldorf
“The Sorrows of Young Werther” is the original title of the epistolary novel written by Goethe, in which the young Werther reports on his unhappy relationship with Lotte, who is engaged to another man.
At the end of the novel, Werther takes his own life with a gun. But what if the story only began here?
The Junges Schauspielhaus approaches the play from a radically new perspective and sends Werther and Lotte on a journey back to all the stages of their (love) relationship. It is a rollercoaster of emotions, driven by Goethe’s unaltered original text.
Directed by Stefan Herrmann, “Werther!” premieres on April 28.
